Flavogard

Tablet with Pycnogenol

Nature's Superantioxdant

What is the Active Ingredient in Flavogard?

Pycnogenol

Pycnogenol, Nature's Superantioxidant

Pycnogenol ®, the active ingredient in Flavogard,  is an aqueous extract of the bark of the French maritime pine (Pinus maritima), a complex containing active bioflavonoids and other substances in concentrated form and unchanged composition. Approx. 600 g of pine bark is required for the production (extraction) of one gramm of Pycnogenol ®

What is the Mechasim of Action of Flavogard?

1. Vasodilation via Increased Nitric Oxide Synthesis

After two weeks of Pycnogenol consumption (180 mg / day), vasodilation resulted in a 46% increase in blood flow from baseline in young healthy volunteers, which was significantly better than the ineffective placebo. The nitric oxide synthase inhibitor neutralized the effect of Pycnogenol. Nishioka et al., 2007. 1

2. Strengthening of Vascular Walls via Inhibition of Collagen Degradation

In clinical trials, Pycnogenol inhibited the activity of collagenase / elastase / hyaluronidase degrading enzymes, thereby protecting collagen / elastin from breaking down. 2

The strengthening of the vascular wall structure has contributed to the outcomes in clinical trials with Pycnogenol in several areas (eg venous insufficiency, diabetes, retinopathy, etc.).

3. Reduction of Inflammation via Reduced Production of Inflammatory Enzymes

Pycnogenol intervenes in the inflammatory cascade at the earliest possible stage by reducing the production of inflammatory enzymes (COX-2 in the joints, 5-LOX in the airways) 3. This has several advantages over standard anti-inflammatory drug therapy: less COX-2 causes fewer symptoms (e.g., pain, stiffness) which can be alleviated with less anti-inflammatory drugs resulting in less side effects.

Hasonlóan, az 5-LOX csökkentett termelése  csökkenti a gyógyszerigényt és a mellékhatásokat, valamint javítja az életminőséget allergiában és asztmában
